ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Buyer, you will play a crucial role in shaping and curating our Meat, Fish & Poultry offering, ensuring it aligns with our farm shop's commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation. You will be responsible for sourcing premium, organic meat, fish and poultry from trusted suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and overseeing product development. You’ll work closely with the wider team, acting as the conduit, bringing together farming, suppliers, shops and the customer proposition whilst ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality, taste, and ethical sourcing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the sourcing strategy for the following categories: Meat (Beef, Lamb, Pork & Venison), Poultry (Chicken, Turkey, Duck & Game), Fish (Wet, Smoked, Shellfish & Caviar), Eggs and Charcuterie. You will be working closely with our own farms and trusted organic and ethical suppliers to ensure the highest standards of quality, sustainability, and traceability
- Curate and manage the range of meat, fish & poultry products to meet the needs of the consumers in all our sales channels. You will work with the product development team to introduce seasonal offerings, new products, and exclusive products that resonate with our customers.
- Ensure all food meets Daylesford’s strict standards of quality, taste, and sustainability. Collaborate with our technical team to implement robust quality assurance processes, ensuring full compliance with organic certification standards and food safety regulations.
- Drive improvements in sales and margin across all categories without compromising on quality or standards. Identify opportunities to deliver cost savings, monitor market pricing trends and negotiate with suppliers to achieve cost targets while maintaining the premium nature of the offering.
- Uphold the company’s commitment to sustainability by sourcing produce that is organic, free-range, and ethically produced. Ensure all sourcing practices align with our values of environmental responsibility, animal welfare, and fair trade.
- Oversee stock levels to ensure optimal availability, minimise wastage, and forecast demand accurately. Implement efficient inventory management practices with regular communication with farms, suppliers & shops to reduce shrinkage and ensure product freshness.
- Collaborate with the shops, sales and marketing teams to ensure the range is promoted effectively both in-store and online. Create educational content and engage customers with information about sourcing, sustainability, and the unique qualities of our products.
- Provide regular reports on sales performance, product trends, and market insights. Use data to drive continuous improvement in product offerings and strategies.

SKILLS YOU WILL BRING
- Extensive Experience in Buying: Proven experience in a senior buying or procurement role within the food industry, preferably with a focus on meat, fish & poultry, and a strong commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing practices, with a passion for high-quality organic and traceable products.
- In-Depth Product Knowledge: A deep understanding of different meat cuts, carcase balancing, production methods, and the organic certification process. Knowledge of food trends and customer preferences within the luxury and organic food market is a plus.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management: Experienced in leading projects and managing stakeholders at all levels. Will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners, providing clear direction and inspiring confidence.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong financial and commercial skills, with the ability to manage margins, pricing, and cost efficiencies while maintaining the quality and integrity of the product range. Experience in managing product categories for an omni-channel business would be preferable.
- Negotiation Skills: Strong ability to negotiate contracts and manage supplier relationships, ensuring competitive pricing, quality assurance, and consistent supply.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for quality, product presentation and visual merchandising to create inspiring, easy-to-shop displays as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
