SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENTS
Acting as responsible businesses runs through the core of each company in the Bamford Collection, but we've also sought external validation to reassure our customers that our commitments are verified. Daylesford's organic certification from the Soil Association confirms that we meet their standards of agroecological farming. Bamford has been awarded the Positive Luxury Butterfly Mark, which recognises its commitment to social and environmental sustainability. More specialised certifications such as Soil Association COSMOS Organic have been achieved on a large number of Bamford's bath and body products.
MICHELIN GREEN STAR
In 2021, Daylesford's The Trough restaurant was awarded one of Michelin's inaugural ‘Green Stars’. The award recognises restaurants for their sustainable and environmental practices and singles them out as ‘role models’ for others. We were one of just 23 restaurants in the UK to be selected for the distinction that year and are proud to have retained our star since.
SOURCING
We’re proud to work with like-minded suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability and can trace the provenance of their supply chain and account for its social and environmental impact.
SUPPORTING ARTISANS
We collaborate with makers who uphold craft-led, artisanal ways of working, valuing their skills, heritage and tradition. One of the suppliers we're most proud to partner with at Daylesford and Bamford is Nila, a non-profit initiative dedicated to celebrating and preserving India’s rich heritage of traditional crafts. Nila was founded by Carole Bamford with the aim of supporting artisan communities across India.
SENSITIVE RESTORATION
We are the custodians of a beautiful collection of period properties. Many of the buildings have operated as important hubs for the community for decades, so great care was taken to restore and maintain their character. Local artisan craftspeople have worked on their refurbishment using local stone and reclaimed timber as the priority materials. Sheep’s wool from Daylesford is used as natural insulation in the walls and roof spaces.
