ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Head Gardener to take full responsibility for the care and development of a private garden of approximately one acre. This is a hands-on role where you will manage all aspects of the garden, including an organic vegetable garden, cutting garden, and greenhouse.

You will an experienced gardener with a strong horticultural background and a genuine passion for creating and maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces. You take pride in your work, enjoy working independently, and have a keen eye for detail. You are adaptable, organised, and committed to delivering high standards.

HOURS - 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm

Flexible to work additional hours at weekends, or public holidays, agreed in advance.

SALARY - £33,000 - £38,000 per annum, dependant on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Full management of the garden, including planning, planting, and maintenance in line with the principle’s requirements.

Maintain and develop an organic vegetable garden, producing fresh produce for the household kitchen.

Manage and maintain a cutting garden, providing flowers for the home and creating attractive floral arrangements.

Oversee glasshouse and greenhouse growing, ensuring optimal conditions for plant health.

Keep the garden tidy, presentable, and visually appealing at all times.

Monitor and report any maintenance issues promptly, ensuring timely resolution.

Order plants, seeds, and materials required, managing budgets effectively.

Operate and maintain garden tools and machinery safely.

SKILLS YOU WILL BRING

Proven experience in managing private gardens or estates.

Strong knowledge of organic vegetable growing and seasonal planting.

Ability to design and maintain cutting gardens and create floral arrangements.

Competence in greenhouse management and plan propagation.

Skilled in operating and maintaining garden machinery.

Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Ability to work independently and take initiative.

A valid driving license and own transport.

Horticultural qualifications (e.g. RHS Level 3 or equivalent) desirable.
